Portaferry Road

Case Study:  Portaferry Road

Country loving couple Ian & Nicola both have busy careers and look forward to their time at home, on the Portaferry Road, Newtownards, when they can relax by the fire in the snug.  This room was the main living space in the old part of the cottage and has the most beautiful original fireplace along with a wood clad ceiling.  Although they used the room every day, it was dark and dated and was in desperate need of a complete makeover.  When we went out to their home, the couple had some ideas on colours, but were struggling to pull a scheme together.  Not wanting to follow the latest trend, they wanted a look which was unique to their home, reflecting their particular style.  They wanted to stick with tradition to a certain extent, but were willing to consider other options.

Taking into account their existing furniture and not wanting to hide the original quarry tiles in front of the fireplace, we came up with a scheme incorporating soft greens and warm whites. They decided on a Beaumont design from Ulster Carpets which will be more than suitable for this.  Along with the carpet, we were able to guide them in their choice of paint colours for the fireplace, wood panelling, walls and ceiling.  The new carpet is complemented by stunning new curtains in a wool herringbone fabric by Abraham Moon.   The transformation in this room is quite remarkable and will be enjoyed for many years to come.
