Case Study:  Ards Peninsula

The owners of this cosy cottage on the Ards Peninsula, share a love for all things outdoor and particularly the sea, and these passions are reflected throughout their home.

The room in question was a large living room with stunning, uninterrupted views of Strangford Lough.  Previously this room was cold and only used on the odd occasion for large gatherings, but despite the generous space and inviting sofas, guests would soon migrate back to the heat of the kitchen.  Even with a large blazing wood burner, the room did not retain the heat.  To tackle the problem, they decided to carpet the room and replace the laminate flooring which had been in situ when the couple moved in a few years ago.

During the consultation at home, the couple discussed their preferences and were open to new ideas on colours, textures and fibres.  The feel they wanted was bright, fresh and airy, but ultimately the room had to feel warm and cozy.  Together we came up with a scheme which is not a typical nautical theme of blue and white, but one which could be described as “country meets coast”.  Looking at the carpet samples in the different corners of the room, along with samples of paint, curtain fabrics, and existing furniture, the decision process was quite simple.  The couple chose an extra heavy domestic carpet from the Highland Range, which is 80/20 British wool in  colour Stone.

With new window dressings in a heavy linen fabric, and a hint of the seaside reflected in the blue stripe cushions and accessories, the overall look and feel of the room has made such an impact that the couple now enjoy this space as a room for every day.
